Tonawanda NY sailors have developed what they call the first 100% solar powered boat. Other boats have hybrid solar technology. Team leader Bob Meacham said this boat has a large enough bank of batteries to keep it's charge for nighttime boating. They're planning a 24 hour run down the Erie Canal to prove the boat can run day and night. Meacham wants people to understand that you can have fun on the canal without polluting it using solar powered technology.
The boat speed can get up to 15 knots and they plan to start selling them for $45,000.
