Candy corporation giant Mars Inc. known to the business world as Mars Chocolate North America has gone solar. Mars owns well known chocolate candy brand Ethel M Chocolates and has installed over 2,000 ground-mounted solar panels at its Henderson Nevada factory.
The panels will generate 1,258 megawatt hours of energy each year and during peak operating hours provide 100% of the electricity used in the production of their products. NV Energy did the installation and owns the ground-mounted solar garden as well as the energy credits that Mars will purchase to use the panels.
A recent ribbon-cutting ceremony kicked off the grand opening of the solar garden to celebrate the chocolate factory being the largest solar powered food manufacturer in the state of Nevada.
“We are fortunate to have been a part of the Henderson and Las Vegas
community for more than 30 years,” said site director Mack Phillips. “We hope the
completion of our solar garden demonstrates our continuing commitment to
be an environmentally friendly citizen. Our goal is that every
business decision we make will have a positive effect on people and the
planet through our performance. This project achieves all three.”
