Hovering over GM's Vehicle Operations Facility in Warren MI is a solar charging canopy called "Tracking Solar Tree." The tracking canopy built by Envision Solar will produce up to 30,000 kilowatt hours of solar power per year and charges 6 electric vehicles.
The Tracking Solar Tree uses a hybrid multi-axis tracking design which allows the entire canopy to turn and tilt into the best position to absorb the rays.
These solar tracking trees made by Envision Solar are so popular that Envision says it's received over $1,000,000 in new orders since the 2nd quarter of 2011 for it's patented EnvisionTrak Solar Tree structures. It's received orders from the U.S. government for these solar tracking structures.
The company has been fabricating and designing a "Mini-Tracking Solar Tree" for single car use and shipped the first one produced to a site in northern California. Envision Solar reported a profit for the 2nd quarter of 2011.
