Strong Interest in Retail Solar Products

Stores specializing in selling solar products continue to do brisk business. While the economy slows down adversely affecting traditional retail outlets, purveyors of solar based gadgets, pv panels, energy saving light bulbs, etc. are doing well and have plans on opening more locations.

Solar store owner Rodney Wiltshire said "About 20,000 buildings in the state have solar installations, he said. “I consider this still the infancy. The opportunity is just huge.”

Jobs In Solar: Grant Writer Needed to help solicit private and public funds (Financial District)

Reply to: gigs-1028677818@craigslist.org
Date: 2009-02-10, 9:06AM EST

We are looking for someone with experience writing requests for funds.

We are looking to get money to fund our documentary project and our green energy "Sky Train" monorail. We wish to expose judicial corruption and offer solutions to it while interviewing Congress members and US Senators in DC as part of our documentary project.

We are also looking for someone to write requests for funds, both public and private, to get our version of "Sky Train" from the model stage to reality. We were able to secure a $100,000 grant ourselves to have a model built. That scale model is in storage in Florida. We need to build a scale model of a substation to show that project's true potential.

The monorail train can run along existing rail lines and highway in any country, work as national emergency evacuation, public transit, and as a way to help reduce congestion on highways by having stations near large, cheap, parking areas. The technology is green and can even generate power with the solar panels that run with the monorail track to bolster the grid, and when there is not enough power to run the train with the sun, the existing power grid can be used, as well as any other means of generating power in substations. The substations can also have a dual purpose as being back up electrical power during national emergencies.

The offer is 1/10 of a percent just to write the documents for us to use. More compensation is possible if you have the connections, or ability to make them, to get us to the table. We are after $1,000,000 grants, various amounts larger than that, and a 3 billion dollar green energy grant. Do the math ...

Serious inquiries only.

Correction to Past Post

*** Correction to The December 15th '08 post regarding Ecocove Marina in Ft. Pierce Florida:

Ecocove Marina owner Blaine Campbell wants readers of Solar Power Buzz to know that his marina is not modeled after "Sun Harbor Marina" in San Diego as was reported in the post of December 15th '08.

We apologize to Mr. Campbell for the inaccuracy.

Here are some facts about Mr. Campbell's marina:

The building won't be completely solar powered but will instead use a "sell back to the meter" method. They will also use the power of the tides to create "Wave Power" and also be monitoring the water. Mr. Campbell and associates intend to build reef structures at the bottoms of the pilings that will help purify the water to help the aquatic life in the area.

Well wishes for Mr. Campbell and associates in creating a great environmentally friendly resource for both the public and natural life!

Solar News Briefs...

*** The Lahaina Harbor Lighthouse on Maui has been switched to being run on solar power. The electrical plug was pulled on Tuesday by members of the local Coast Guard. The 93 year old lighthouse will no longer be dependent on traditional electricity and as a result will be avoiding power outages. This is the 3rd lighthouse to switch over to solar power and all navigational facilities are being evaluated for possible conversion to solar power in the future.

Story at Honolulu Advertiser.

*** Coal Fired Plant Could Be Supplemented With Solar Power

Feb 07, 2009 (Albuquerque Journal - McClatchy-Tribune:

The Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association has reached agreement with the Electric Power Research Institute to use its Escalante Station in a case study on infusing solar energy in the production of electricity.

Tri-State, which is based in Denver, supplies wholesale power to 44 electric cooperatives in four states, including 12 co-ops in New Mexico. The institute is an independent nonprofit that conducts research reports on generating, delivering and using electricity for public benefit.

At plants like the one in Prewitt, coal is burned to produce steam that turns a generator's turbines to generate electric power, up to 245 megawatts an hour in the case of the Escalante Station.

"Solar infusion would be used to augment that cycle, such that you could create the same amount of steam with less coal burning," said Barry Ingold, Tri-State's senior manager of production assets.

Tri-State says the infusion of solar energy would not only reduce a plant's carbon dioxide footprint, but also give it the ability to add utility-scale power generation without the challenges of siting a new plant.

*** USA Is Now The Top Producer of Wind Power

Germany is no longer the top producer of wind power installations in the world. That title now belongs to the USA with Spain 2nd in line followed by Germany and China coming in fourth. Germans use a lot more wind power than Americans to generate electricity.

"Last week, the US Senate Finance Committee approved about $31 billion in tax breaks and incentives for boosting alternative energy supplies.

The United States is also expected to oust Germany this year as the world's biggest producer of solar power, thanks in part to its sunnier climate, Jefferies analyst Michael McNamara told Reuters."

Solar Fun For Kids!

Here are some cool and sunny solar kits you can buy to teach kids the principles of solar energy and robotics. Owikits will be exhibiting their line of robotic and educational kits aimed at teaching children scientific principles and having fun at the same time. The American International Toy Fair located at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NYC will host this exhibit on Feb. 15 through the 18th. Over 20K attendees are expected at this year's Toy Fair.

Their mini solar Robotikits teach kids the process of using solar energy to run a small motor. Some of the kits are aimed at beginners and have pieces that snap together and others need more advanced mechanical and soldering skills. There are a variety of kits to choose from and most are reasonably priced under $20.

Vintage Trolleys Go Solar!

Pittsburgh's "Pennsylvania Trolley Museum" is going to power it's ancient trolleys with solar energy. The trolleys will be the first in the world to be solar powered. The new system will be designed and built by local solar cell manufacturer "Solar Power Industries" of Belle Vernon.

The museum is covered in snow now but will open on April 3rd of this year. The solar trolleys will be operating next year with an estimated savings of $5,000 which is good for a smaller exhibition. Approximately 24,000 visitors attend the trolley museum each year.
